We've been there during the gaming drought. We craved for new games to come out. We were left with nothing more than a few games for summer. The holidays sucked back then. Now, the Gaming Industry is paying us back with more games than we can handle. Winter is flooded. This holiday rocks! Goodbye social life!
Well not entirely. I have to thank the PSP for allowing me to enjoy my social life as well as my gaming at the same time. What games? I've got a number of them. And below I'll list down the games I've played and a brief description of my experience with them.
PlayStation 2:
Dragon Quest VIII: The Quest of the Cursed King :
Final Fantasy XII too far off for you? Kingdom Hearts II is only out in Japan? Try DQVIII - the long awaited RPG from Enix (now under SquareEnix). This is a heck of a very long RPG but great nonetheless. It has this classic feel to it yet at the same time rather modern.
WWE Smackdown! VS Raw 2006:
I've never enjoyed a wrestling game as much as this after the disappointment I got from the last one. Season mode is great but rather short. You get more things to do with more goals given to you. You get to synchronise with your PSP version. And best of all, the CAW mode's massive improvements. Extremely great replay value. One new additions to the WWE series is the General Manager Mode, which also offers a 2-player mode. I had fun with it.
Xbox:
Battlefield: Modern Combat :
If you loved battlefield on the PC, then you'll love this great addition to the console as well. Modern vehicles, modern weapons, great maps and objectives. You won't get lost easily with what you need to do as well.
Burnout Revenge:
Do I even have to say anything more about this game? With Burnout 3 breaking new grounds in arcade racers, burnout revenge takes it even further with new techniques, better graphics and still faster than ever. You don't get a racing game as addicting as Burnout Revenge.
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One :
You're looking for a World War shooter and not modern combat? This game is for you. First few hours through this game, it's hard for me to put down the controller. The campaign mode gives something that no other World War shooter currently can - a great story while actually getting to know your comrades int the Big Red One. This is my first person shooter of the year.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted :
Great graphics. Great physics. Great cars. And you are wanted by the Police. Make it to the top blacklist in street racing and be known as a legend. No more driving at night like the Underground series. Most Wanted takes you cruising through a city dusk till dawn.
Peter Jackson's King Kong The Official Game of The Movie:
Great game based on survival skills. Not a normal 1st person shooter/adventure. You get limited ammos throughout the game and you depend mostly on spears or bones lying around to survive. Great replay value for me. I played it over and over again for unlockables.
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones:
I'm 90% over this game and this is a great come back from the annoying Warrior Within. Great puzzles, great action, and a memorable story.
PlayStation Portable:
Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories :
If you are afraid that GTA won't translate well on the PSP, then fear not - this is a great game. Nothing beats GTA: SA though but still, this is GTA portable, MAFIA style. Who wouldn't want to jack cars while you are actually outside the home?
Infected :
Very addicting somehow. A great arcade shooter for the PSP. I bring this game everywhere I go so I can just shoot zombies endlessly while chaining great combos. Lock-on works perfectly on this, something I've been annoyed with 3rd person shooters on the PSP. GTA might learn a thing or two from this game. Play online as well to spread your virus (via avatar) to other players around the world and see as your virus infects other players! Oh and the soundtracks rock!
SOCOM:Fire Team Bravo :
Yet another great 3rd person shooter on the PSP. This has an addicting online mutiplayer game. And via mic, you can voice chat for a much better game strategy. I've talked about this a lot the past month and guys, if you are into shooters like this, get it - and let me know =)
With the PSP getting more games than just racing, and 3rd Person shooters proving to be great on it than just racers, I am in on a great holiday so far. I've still got more games to play before January comes - I hope to finish everything by then.
