Doom, The Movie

DOOM (the movie) is a good example of how you should ignore the critics and just go watch the damn movie yourself. I have encountered a lot of bad reviews but that did not stop me from going to the cinema, buying the ticket, and enjoying the movie. Yes, I enjoyed it pretty much.

The movie did start a bit slow though - most of the time, it was full of useless suspence-turned-comedy. But - nothing happens in the beginning - well nothing much. The best part of the movie comes in the middle towards the end.

Character-wise, Sarge (The Rock) could've been made better. He lacks character in most parts of the movie. It wasn't until towards the ending that you get to know him pretty well.

The plot is a bit disappointing - but I'll leave that part in the Movie&Game comparison below. That's about it as a movie I'd like to mention.

When comparing it to the game, by the game I mean Doom 3, this movie is a bit of a disappointment to me. Weapons from a chainsaw to the BFG can be seen but most you don't see in action. The plot is different. And I mean different. Human experiment gone wrong story is substituted to the original demons on Mars. Which means, you don't get to see the final boss of Doom3 here. And speaking of the demons, they included a lot of the Doom demons in the movie. Too bad though that most of them you only get to see in this 6-9 minutes of the FPS scene.

The FPS scene? Awesome! When normally, I would feel dizzy looking at people playing an FPS game when I'm not the one controlling - here, I just feel right at home.

One more thing though, the part that disappointed me the most - is how the movie lack the scary factor of Doom 3. The dark corners are just... dark corners. The atmostphere is just too sci-fi and boring. That feeling I felt about dark areas from the game just wasn't there at all. I was hoping that this would be scary - but it turned out to be just a good action movie. That's all.

Still, as a movie, Doom is worth the watch.
